Secrets of Nomads (8 days/7 nights)

Bishkek - Cholpon Ata – Jety Oguz – Son Kul Lake – Arslan-Bob – Osh - Bishkek 

Period: mid-June – mid-September 

Day 1.  Bishkek: Arrival in Bishkek. Sight-seeing tour of Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic. From 1926 to 1991 the city was known as Frunze named after the Bolshevik military leader Mihail Frunze. After the independence it was renamed Bishkek. Visiting Ala-Too Square, the main square of Kyrgyzstan, The State Historical Museum, providing different founds and exhibits relating to the Kyrgyz history, Old Square, Manas Square called after Kyrgyz legendary hero Manas, “ZUM” shopping center where you can buy different souvenirs. Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 2. Bishkek  -  Cholpon-Ata: In the morning transfer to Cholpon-Ata that is situated on the shore of the Issyk-Kul Lake (hot lake), a pearl of Central Asia, the second biggest mountain lake in the world after the Titicaca Lake. On the way visit of  the Burana Museum, the ancient capital of Central Asia of the 11th century called Balasagun. Arrival in Cholpon-Ata. Overnight at the hotel

 

Day 3. Cholpon-Ata – Karakol – Jety -  Oguz: Transfer to Karakol. Visit of the Prejvalsky Memorial Complex. In order to understand the Kyrgyz people life of the 19th century visit of an orthodox church, a wooden mosque in Karakol. In the afternoon drive to Djety-Oguz Sanatorium, a very famous sanatorium of the Soviet time. Soviet president and famous astronauts visited it. There is an opportunity to take a radon shower and massage in the sanatorium. Overnight in yurts.

 

Day 4.  Jety-Oguz –  Son-Kul Lake (3016m) : In the morning departure from Jety-Oguz. Lunch  in Kochkor village where we can visit a handicraft center and see the process of making traditional Kyrgyz carpets. In the afternoon transfer to the Son-Kul Lake over Kalmak -Ashu Pass. Drive around the Son-Kul Lake to get to our yurt camp. Making the acquaintance with nomadic traditions. Overnight in yurts. 

 

Day 5. Son-Kul Lake –Chichkan: Transfer to Chichkan gorge. Coming up to Kara - Keche canyon then to Kekemeren gorge via Chaek. Drive to the Susamyr Valley, a huge prairie where local nomads come in summer to herd their cattle (3440). Arrival at Chichkan gorge. Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 6. Chichkan –Arslan-Bob : Transfer to Arslan-Bob. Driving up to the Toktogul Dam. Picnic on the shore of the reservoir. then getting to the canyon raising over  the Naryn River. On the main highway Osh-Bishkek drive to the Fergana Valley.  Dinner in Djalal- Abad. Setting off for great walnut forests. Visiting a small waterfall sacred for local people. Overnight in guesthouse.

 

Day 7. Arslan-Bob – Osh: In the morning leaving walnut forests. Stop in the town of Uzgen that once was an important city of the Karakhanid Kaghanate (a Turkic dynasty) and a major trading point on the Great Silk Road. The architecture complex consisting of the 11th century minaret and three mausoleums dating from the 11th and 12th centuries makes Uzgen one of the unique architectural sites of medieval Central Asia.     Transfer to Osh city, an important trading point on the ancient Great Silk Road not far from the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. Sightseeing tour of Osh. Visit of Sulaiman Too (Solomon’s Mountain), a pilgrimage place for local Muslims, because, according to the legend, biblical prophet Solomon (Suleiman in the Koran) was buried at the foot of it, a mosque built by Babur, the founder of the Mogul Dynasty in India (15th c) and the  Suleiman Mountain Museum, where we can see different things that were found in  the immediate vicinity of the mountain, photos of the mountain’s petroglyphs, that date back to different centuries. Walk around the city, Opportunity to see ordinary people’s life. Visit the famous Osh Bazaar, a classical example of an eastern market, situated on the bank of the Ak-Bura River and a three-storey yurt. In the evening visit of a traditional chaihana (tea-house), where we can try traditional Kyrgyz and Asian dishes, including plov, lagman, samsy- baked meat dumplings that are very popular in Central Asia. Overnight in guesthouse.

  

Day 8.  Osh – Bishkek: Transfer to Bishkek. We will drive through Fergana valley and enjoy a wonderful scenery of the longest river of the country – the Naryn River. Then drive along the coast of the Toktogul Reservoir, the biggest reservoir in Kyrgyzstan named after a famous Kyrgyz poet and musician Toktogul Satykganov. Then we will get to Toe-Ashu Pass via Chichkan Gorge and Susamyr Valley. Drive through the tunnel located at the height of about 4000 m. Arrival in Bishkek. Overnight at the hotel.

Kyrgyz visa can be obtained in the permanent representation of Kyrgyzstan in Europe or at Manas International Airport in Bishkek (2 passport’s photos and 35$ per pax, passport with a validity of minimum 6 months.)
