Ride on the Great Silk Road

Horseback Tour: 8 days

We will help you to follow Marco Polo’s routes over the most beautiful passes of the Great Silk Road. This peculiar adventure will lead you to the land lying amidst the high Tien Shan Mountains, a big mountain range between China and West. You will cross fast rivers and high mountains thanks to staying power of Kyrgyz horses, the most important animals for nomads from the ancient times. During this trip you will meet nomadic people and get acquaintance with their culture and traditions. 

Day 1 Bishkek – Pakrovka via Karakol: Transfer to guesthouse in order to take shower and have breakfast. In the morning sightseeing tour of the capital of Kyrgyzstan.  After lunch setting off for Pakrovka village, where we will be met by a nice Russian family.  Dinner and taking a real Russian sauna. Homestay in a family.


Day 2 Pakrovka- Kichi Kizil-Suu: Riding to a small village Kichi Kizil-Suu. We will get to the kingdom of green mountains, red rocks, steep cliffs. We will cross the field of edelweiss to enjoy the wonderful view of the Issyk-Kul Lake. (6h ride). Overnight  in a tent. 


Day 3 Kichi Kizil-Suu – Djukkutchak: After breakfast we will continue our way to Lumatai Pass (3654m). We will ride over this pass to get to Jiluu-Suu « warm water», where we will be able to swim in a hot spring (+40 C). 5 hours ride. Overnight in a tent. 


Day 4 Djukutchak - Djuuku: We will descend on our horses back to Djukkutchak village. We will see a variety of plants: beautiful spruce trees and juniper. We will get to Djukku valley to set up our camp. Overnight in a tent.


Day 5 Djuuku - Dungourome: During the day we will follow caravans going to this valley. Riding up to Dungourome Pass (3773 m), at the foot of the glaciers. Overnight in a tent.


Day 6 Dungourome–Barskoon valley: In the morning we will descend to the west to the  Dungourom valley. We will come through the former border check point that is just an ecological checkpoint now. Then comming down to the Barskoon valley. We will see cascades and the mounument ddicated. Overnight in a tent.


Day 7 Barskoon gorge - Tamga : The last day of  our ride in the Barskoon valley. We will come down  towards to the Issyk-Kul Lake and we will get to the heat and semi-deserted landscape.  Arrival at guesthouse. In the afternoon rest on the southern shore of the Issyk-Kul Lake. Overnight in guesthouse.


Day 8 Tamga-Bishkek : Transfer to  Bishkek. We drive along the shore of the Issyk-Kul Lake. Arrival in Bishkek in the afternoon. Time to go shopping and visit the famous Osh bazaar. Traditional dinner and overnight in guesthouse.

This riding tour is made special for experienced riders. During this tour the average altitude will be 3600 meters above the sea level. The weather conditions can be very severe. We recommend you to have special equipment to face storm, snow, rain and hail. Nights can be very cold.

Kyrgyz visa can be obtained in the permanent representation of Kyrgyzstan in Europe or at Manas International Airport in Bishkek (2 passport’s photos and 35$ per pax, passport with a validity of minimum 6 months.)
