To the Irdik Lakes

Trekking Tour: 8 days 

Day 1  Bishkek: Arrival  in Bishkek. In the morning we have a small sightseeing tour of Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, where a famous soviet General Mihail Frunze was born.   Visit of the squares of the capital and walk around the city. Overnight in guesthouse.

 

 

 

Day 2 Transfer Bishkek- Karakol: After breakfast we head to the east to find ourselves at the eastern part of the Issyk-Kul Lake. On the way visiting the Burana Museum, a site of a medieval city of Balasagun, the capital of the Karahanid Kaganate, a Turkic dynasty of the 11 century. Setting off for the Issyk-Kul Lake.  Overnight in Karakol.   

 

   

 

Day 3 Karakol –  « Mokraya Polyana » glade: In the morning transfer to Karakol gorge, an amazing gorge in the heart of the Terskei Ala-Too. Here we can see Turkestan spruce trees that are widespread only here in Kyrgyzstan. Its height can reach 18 meters and the girth of its trunk – 1.5 meters. In Karakol gorge we can see Palatka Mountain (tent). At the foot of one mountain of this gorge there is a glade with the name « Mokraya Polyana » (3 h). Overnight in a tent ( 2700 m ).

 

 

Day 4 «Mokraya Polyana» Glade – Irdik lakes: In the morning we begin our hiking to the eastern Irdik Lake (3200 m, 6 hours hiking). During the hike we watch the process of changing the landscapes. We will see steep cliffs and precipices, high rocks, green mountains, we will go through the juniper forest where sick person can feel better. Overnight in a tent.

 

 

Day 5 The eastern Irdik Lake – the western Irdik Lake: Today we will hike for about 6 hours. On the way we will see a lot of edelweiss field (the flower of love) and pastures that are used by Kyrgyz nomads. We will see a lot of marmots at the altitude of 3650  m. Camping at the altitude of  3300 m. Overnight in a tent. 

 

 

Day 6 Western Irdik Lake – Diychin: After big breakfast we start our hiking, descent to Diychin valley (3-4h) where a lot of dungans live. Dungans are Chinese Muslims that were prosecuted by the Chinese in the 19th century and fled to Kyrgyzstan. Today we stay with a Dungan family, try traditional lagman.  Overnight in guesthouse.

  

Day 7 Transfer  Diychin –  Karakol: In the morning after a good sleep transfer to Karakol. At about 10 we will have a sightseeing tour of Karakol. Visit of the oldest Russian orthodox church in Kyrgyzstan of the 19th century. and the wooden Dungan mosque. Here we can visit Karakol market and try national dishes, such as ashlyamfu and shashlyk made of beef or lam. In the afternoon we visit a museum dedicated to a Russian explorer of the 19th century Prjvalskii. Then swimming in the lake on the beach situated about 10 km away from Karakol. Overnight in guesthouse.      

 

 

Day 8 Transfer Karakol – Bishkek - Osh: Arrival in Bishkek. Visit of the State Historical Museum. In the afternoon flight to Osh – the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan. Arrival in Osh and a small city tour. Visit of a famous Suleiman  Mountain, a big rock in the heart of the city.  Overnight at the hotel.

Kyrgyz visa can be obtained in the permanent representation of Kyrgyzstan in Europe or at Manas International Airport in Bishkek (2 passport’s photos and 35$ per pax, passport with a validity of minimum 6 months.)
